My sculptures break out of rough stone and wood coming to life through form, movement and emotion. I am inspired by the beauty within nature and the dynamics of the human form moving through space. With an anthropomorphic sensibility, I strive to express our connection with the natural world.
Ms. Engel has exhibited her sculpture extensively and her work has been purchased by private collectors in the United States and France, and is also part of the Art Students League of New York’s permanent collection. Awards include the Nessa Cohen Memorial Grant, Calvary Baptist Church Award, Leila Gardin Sawyer Award, Harriet W. Fishmuth Award, the Allied Artists of America Members and Associates Award, a Certificate of Merit from the Salmagundi Club, the Council of American Societies, Inc. In Memory of Will Barnet, and The Anna Hyatt Huntington award for Best of Show. She is a member of Long Island City Artists, Queens, an elected member of Allied Artists of America and board member at Catherine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club.
Ms. Engel earned a BA in Liberal Arts Rhode Island College and a Certificate in Graphic Design at the Center for the Media Arts in New York. She discovered her passion for sculpture at the Art Students League of New York during her time at the Pietrasanta Carving School in Italy. She currently lives and has a studio in Long Island City, NY.
